Who can do Postnatal Pilates

The Postnatal Pilates course is not only recommended for new mums, but also for ladies wanting to strengthen their core muscles, tone up and generally wanting a trimmer, sleeker body.

Benefits of Postnatal Pilates

You will gain the following benefits from Postnatal Pilates:

  • greater strength in your core muscles
  • improved posture
  • less back pain and tenderness
  • improved upper body strength
  • strengthened pelvic floor muscles, pelvis and spine
  • increase in the production of endorphins which will lead to increase in energy and reduce fatigue
  • regain a trimmer figure

Postnatal Issues

Giving birth to your baby can take its toll on your body and it can affect you in the following ways:

  • pelvic floor muscles are weakened by pregnancy,
  • postures are affected by the natural changes in your body,
  • back and stomach muscles are weakened,
  • fatigue,
  • breast feeding and day to day care of your baby

All of the above make it difficult for women to regain their strength, figure and mental outlook.

How will Postnatal Pilates help me?

Postnatal Pilates offers women the opportunity to gently bring their bodies back into alignment after the rigours of childbirth. New mothers are led through a specifically designed programme combining Pilates and Yoga, to rehabilitate their bodies enabling them to regain their natural vitality, suppleness and strength.

It is advisable to wait until after you have had your six week check for a natural birth and eight/nine weeks after a caesarean before starting Postnatal Pilates. Everyone is different and it is always best to consult with your Midwife or GP before going back to exercise after you have had your baby.
