Counselling
Jackie Gess MBACP Snr. Accred Counsellor, UKRC Reg. Ind. Counsellor
Counselling for adults and young people I have been working as a counsellor for many years, seeing adults and young people in private practice and also in agency, company and school settings. I use an integrative approach and enable clients to determine the focus, pace and depth of their counselling.
How can counselling help?
Counselling gives an opportunity to talk to a qualified professional in a confidential and neutral environment. It allows the expression of concerns and feelings about problems that may be troubling you.
My role is to help you find your own solutions to your problems, and where appropriate, to explore the connections these problems might have to past experiences.
You can find out more information about counselling from the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy www.bacp.co.uk Counselling, Pregnancy and Parenthood
Pregnancy, for most parents, is a beautiful and life affirming period of their lives. However, the normal emotional rollercoaster of pregnancy and childbirth can sometimes feel totally overwhelming. Changes in body shape, digestion and need for intimacy occur at an incredible rate. Even the thought of being able to adjust to your new role can feel an impossibility when there are intrusions such as work, cleaning, cooking, and being available for family and friends.
During pregnancy and in the months after childbirth thoughts can surface about parents’ own experiences of childhood and family situations. These thoughts in turn can influence how parents may wish to bring up their children, and their dreams and ambitions for their children’s future. The complex emotional “web” which is created can, for some, feel difficult to entangle. This “web” is further complicated if there have also been unresolved physical or emotional trauma during the parents’ lives.
Counselling gives an opportunity to talk to a qualified professional in confidential and neutral environment. It allows the expression of concerns and feelings about problems that just don’t go away. The counselling process provides a safe environment in which to explore thoughts and feelings, and to help individuals find their own solutions to their problems. How long will counselling last and how much will it cost?
Each session lasts 50 minutes. Many people come to weekly sessions for 6 - 8 weeks, concentrating on a particular immediate problem. Others may choose to continue for a longer period should they wish to explore their issues further. The fee for each session is £45, payable at the end of every session. Payment can be made by cheque or cash.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality will be maintained unless I am concerned for your safety or the safety of others. I will discuss this issue with you in the first session.
